As a student with a physical disability the RCPD provides me with critical tools to help me succeed with my coursework. -Barbara, Friendship Memorial Scholar |

MSU students, faculty, and staff have an excellent and unique opportunity to become a part of the Adapted Sports Club. Those with or without disabilities are welcome to come and learn new skills, get fit, and have a great time doing it. The Adapted Sports Club will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in the IM Circle Gym (1st Floor).
The club plays many different sports, including, but not limited to, wheelchair basketball, goal ball, and beep baseball. Equipment is provided. They are always looking for new sports to play and trying to find ways to modify already existing games. Some ideas in the works are to modify dodge ball, floor hockey, and any other suggestions that arise. "We just try to have time to get together and have fun. We want to make sports inclusive and we are always trying to figure out how to adapt new sports," says Crystal, one of the club's members.
I had the privilege of joining the group for beep baseball. It was a lot of fun and MSU has a special connection with the sport. Each year Stephen Blosser, the assistive technology specialist for the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, and seniors from the College of Engineering put their heads together to create a new peice of assistive technology for persons with disabilities. Through these projects MSU has designed the equipment and made improvements to the equipment for beep baseball. In the future Blosser hopes to create equipment for other adaptived sports to be used around the world.
If you have any questions about the club please contact ennpag2@msu.edu, or if you would like to make a financial gift or a gift of equipment, please contact Mo Gerhardt, advisor of the Adapted Sports Club or Ginger Martz, RCPD blindness/mobility disability specialist.
