The annual Adaptive Sports Day, organized by the Council of Students with Disabilities (CSD), happens each April to raise awareness on adaptive sports and share alternative ways of exercising. Participants leave the event with knowledge about many different ways you can adapt different sports to be more accessible and inclusive of everyone.
This year’s event was held on April 20, 2024, along with many other events happening around campus as well. Despite the other events going on, the adaptive sports day brought in a large crowd. Robert Briseno, RCPD team member and adaptive sports day participant shares, “Considering all the other events going on at msu that day, adaptive sports day had a large crowd. Three sports were available: Volleyball, pickleball, and trashketball. Everyone was able to try out everything at least once. The majority of people who were there until the end were active and got some good exercise the entire time. Having enough sports chairs was a huge plus! Everyone was able to try one out. There were athletes who played adaptive sports regularly, but there were first timers also.”
Adaptive Sports Day is sponsored by the MSU Recreational Sports and Fitness Services, MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD), and the MSU Adaptive Sports & Recreation Club.
