Join Michigan State University's oldest student organization, Tower Guard, for the 12th annual Shamrock Run, Walk, and Roll 5K on Saturday, March 17. The race begins behind Conrad Hall on MSU's campus at 11a.m. and follows a route which is fully accessible, beautiful and structured for the needs of everyone from accomplished athlete, to fair weather exerciser.
Since the spring of 2000, Tower Guard has hosted this St. Patrick's Day classic in order to raise money for an endowment held by the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. Tower Guard's commitment to service dates back to its founding in 1934, and they have been working hand-in-hand with the RCPD for the past 40 years. Members of the sophomore honor organization assist students with print-related disabilities via extensive efforts that make textbooks and testing accessible.
"The sustained efforts of Tower Guard extend MSU's leadership in quality accessible education," RCPD Director Michael Hudson said.
"Their efforts make textbooks available in Braille, large print and voiced versions for students who struggle to read traditional paper copy."
Participants line up for the start of the race.
To support MSU Tower Guard and the important work they do, join the near 300 participants already signed up and register for the race. Registration costs $25.00 and is available online or on Saturday at Conrad Hall, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Registrants will receive mementos for participation, including a t-shirt. Various door prizes will be awarded. The top finishers in each bracket will be presented with awards at a ceremony following the race.
Beyond the athletic opportunities of the day, families will enjoy social and educational experiences too. Tower Guard will host a performance by the Spartan Discords A cappella group and give a presentation, outlining the value that Tower Guard and the RCPD bring to MSU.
Support Tower Guard and the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, and have a great time doing so this St. Patrick's Day.
