The robust turn out for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion fair is indication of a growing hunger from all angles for acknowledging the impact that identity and belonging have in a work setting.
The event was held on February 1, 2023. It was the first event of its kind on campus and attracted over two hundred employers, requiring spaces throughout the Breslin Center. Students and employers were involved in listening to different presentations and noting initiatives from different organizations. Part of the schedule was devoted to a Reverse Career Fair, where employers circled tables set up with different student organizations and learned about the importance of different aspects of inclusion. Staff and students from the RCPD were present to share perspectives of disability and accommodations as part of inclusivity in the workplace. Employers were curious about what different kinds of accommodations were important to consider and how they might even be available to help support different career readiness goals.
The hunger for these kinds of discussions and initiatives is only likely to grow from here and we are looking forward to future events that consider these intersections of identity a priority for employers and employees alike.
