RCPD recently had the opportunity to co-host a film screening and panel discussion with WKAR Public Media. As part of the Indie Lens Pop-Up Series, in-person and virtual attendees were shown Move Me, a documentary directed by Kelsey Peterson and centers on her life-changing spinal cord injury that paralyzed her, seemingly interrupting a promising dance career. Of particular focus is her journey as a dancer, before and after becoming disabled, and the truths that come to light through her experiences.
Following the hour-long screening, panelists Colleen Floyd (Ability Access Specialist, RCPD), Emily Abrams (Academic Advisor, TRIO Student Support Services), and Tyler Smeltekop (Assistant Director, RCPD) led a discussion around various themes and concepts that arose in the documentary. Audience members also participated and shared their own experiences with navigating identity after acquiring a disability.
Stay tuned to WKAR for more information about when Move Me will be broadcast on Independent Lens.
