Tyler joined the RCPD team in September 2022 serving as Assistant Director of Assistive Technology Innovation, aiming to expand on the MSU Community’s access to accessible technology, course content and equitable experiences across campus.
Tyler’s passion for advocacy and communication access for all has not only brought many new and exciting opportunities to those whom RCPD serves, but it has also provided an opportunity for Tyler to serve a greater community beyond MSU. Tyler was recently appointed to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services (D&HHS) Board of Directors in 2023, where he will continue his advocacy work for the deaf and hard of hearing community. “It’s essential to me that our children with hearing loss in Michigan are given the opportunity to succeed and accomplish their goals, and D&HHS is positioned to provide services and consultation at critical points of need,” he said.
His lived experience as a Deaf person using hearing aids, cochlear implants, lipreading and American Sign Language has led him to the conviction that disability accommodation is a compassionate, creative process tailored to each individual’s needs.
Tyler’s dedication to ensure equitable communication access for all has been proven in his professional work and the advocacy work he does in both his professional and personal life is an asset to both RCPD and D&HHS.
Congratulations, Tyler, on your appointed Board of Director role with D&HHS!
