Emma Bush, MSU senior, Tower Guard alumna, and president of the Council of Students with Disabilities, recently spoke at the Cystic Fibrosis Education Night hosted by the University of Michigan. She was invited to attend the event as the keynote speaker, sharing insights from her experience with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), which is a disorder that causes mucus to build up and damage organs in the body, particularly the lungs and pancreas. More that 30,000 US adults and kids have CF. At this event, Emma discussed her journey with CF, from being diagnosed in 6th grade up until present day as a college student. She highlighted her accomplishments despite having CF, including international travel to Japan and Germany and attending Space Camp. Emma also discussed the research that she is involved in at MSU, which explores CF through a deeper lens. Emma provided inspiration and encouragement for individuals and families impacted by CF, assuring them that success is possible despite the challenges that the disease may pose.
Emma will be graduating in the upcoming fall 2022 semester with a degree in Genomics and Molecular Genetics, and with minors in Women’s Studies and Bioethics. Emma plans on continuing her education by attending graduate school following her undergraduate graduation. This summer, Emma will be traveling to Austria with the Spartan Marching Band to perform at a music festival hosted in Schladming, Austria.
