Recently, Michigan State University was recognized as one of the top allergy-accommodating schools nationwide in Allergic Living’s article, “Colleges That Go the Distance for Students with Food Allergies.”
MSU students take large strides in advancing technology for the ALS community. The team, consisting of Claire Kendell, Jessica Stevons, Sean Arnoldt, Don Gorton, Nicholas Boblet, and Brennan Koehler, sought to upgrade the original MSU SCATIR (Self-Calibrating Auditory Tone Infrared) Switch. The team was led and sponsered by Stephen Blosser, former RCPD employee.
Working closely with MSU’s Culinary Services, the RCPD is proud to support and encourage individuals with food allergies, as well as other dietary challenges, to eat on campus.
Going to college is an exciting time no matter how you slice it, between pursuing a degree, meeting new people, studying hard, and being away from home (sometimes for the very first time!). For students living with cystic fibrosis (CF), attending college presents other unique challenges as well.
Five years have passed since the first Alex’s Great State Race, and the event is still running strong. It all started with a student diagnosed with cancer and turned into a bond between two rival colleges coming together in his memory to make a profound difference for students with disabilities.
Preparing for college can be stressful for students with dietary restrictions. Whether they have a gluten intolerance or Crohn’s Disease, navigating around a university’s meal plan has proven to be challenging. RCPD and Culinary Services are here to help!

Shawn lost a brave 18-month battle with brain cancer in 2011, at just 34 years of age. Although he isn't physically here, his legacy continues as an embodiment of Spartan leadership.
An alumni of the College of Arts and Letters at Michigan State University, Mr. Shawn M. Koch, was known for his voracious appetite for knowledge. Family and friends established the Shawn M. Koch Memorial Fund as a means to keep his formidable legacy alive. The MSU Gastrointestinal Student Initiative began in January 2010 as a support group, but has expanded over time to organizing educational activities and impacting public affairs. One in 200 people are affected by GI syndromes.
