Recently, Michigan State University was recognized as one of the top allergy-accommodating schools nationwide in Allergic Living’s article, “Colleges That Go the Distance for Students with Food Allergies.”
For 48 years, the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) has been maximizing ability and opportunity for members of the Spartan community and beyond. In February 2020, RCPD was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating decades of creativity supporting community advancement and leadership in the area of diversity. This award was presented to RCPD Director Michael Hudson and staff during the MSU Excellence in Diversity Awards (EIDA) program sponsored by the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives.
The Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities is pleased to announce a brand-new initiative launching Fall 2020: RCPD will provide electronic braille displays to incoming blind students who use braille at no cost to them – the first program of its kind at any university in the United States!
The Michigan Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) believes in the capacity of achieving employment and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. The award-winning program Transitions in Training was developed with the BSBP to share the benefits of higher education and job opportunities for students who are blind or visually impaired.
Every spring, a ceremony called May Morning Sing celebrates the induction of a new Tower Guard which consists of a select few of the top 5% of Michigan State’s freshman class.
Matthew Miller is an RCPD student with a visual impairment with a love for the game of ice hockey. Despite his disability, Matthew is able to enjoy watching the game due to the lighting and sounds that allow him to follow the plays.

Dan Gilbert, CEO of Quicken Loans, and his wife, Jennifer Gilbert, donated $15 million to MSU in October of 2016. A portion of the gift contributes to the RCPD's growth and mission on campus.
